The horrific October 7th surprise attack and massacre led by Hamas shattered our community and continues to be a devastating event for Jewish worldwide.
As you know, this year’s commemoration is different from anything we have experienced in the past. It comes after a complex year in the history of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, which is still in engaged in an ongoing and exhausting war. throughout this past year, our community was not only fighting to defend Israel, but fighting to defend themselves from the dramatic rise of antisemitism and anti-Zionism across the U.S. These factors make this year’s remembrance event particularly poignant, filled with pain, sorrow, and ongoing concern not only for what is happening in Israel but also for the situation in the United States.
We see great importance in holding remembrance events, as these events will be a powerful opportunity to demonstrate solidarity, support for Israel and a firm stand against the rise of Antisemitism in the US. Together with partner organizations and together with the community we can create a meaningful experience of unity and responsibility, healing and hope for change.
